Austin, TX – March 2025 – CIO Views Magazine proudly features Rachana Nakil-Suryapeth, Chief Operating Officer of The Sky Industries, in our prestigious edition, Top 10 Empowering Women Leaders to Follow in 2025. Rachana’s journey from nanoscience to manufacturing leadership is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
A Second-Generation Entrepreneur with a Fresh Perspective
With a Bachelor’s in Nanoscience and a Master’s in Marketing from La Trobe University, Australia, Rachana set out to contribute meaningfully to India’s manufacturing sector. Inspired by her father, Mr. Ravindra Nakil, she joined The Sky Industries, a company specializing in fabrication and precision machining for pump and machine manufacturers.

“Starting from scratch with engineering drawings was daunting,” she recalls. “But my father’s mentorship and my commitment to self-learning helped me navigate this journey.” Today, alongside her sister Swarada Nakil (CFO), Rachana plays a pivotal role in leading The Sky Industries into a new era of innovation and growth.
Leading with Learning: The COO Perspective
Rachana embraced the COO role as a leap of faith, recognizing the endless learning opportunities in the manufacturing sector. “Every project comes with unique technical challenges, making each day a new learning experience,” she shares.
Her leadership extends beyond technical expertise; she finds joy in working closely with blue-collar employees and middle management, gaining hands-on insights that no office setting could provide. She attributes her ability to step out of her comfort zone to her father’s guidance and her deep passion for understanding operations at every level.

Innovating in HR & Employee Empowerment
One of Rachana’s key contributions has been transforming HR practices at The Sky Industries. She believes in creating a healthy work environment that fosters both personal and professional growth.
“We empower our team with clear role definitions and a customized ERP system that enhances operational efficiency,” she explains. She also champions fully paid six-month maternity leave for women employees, reinforcing her belief in treating employees as family.
Diversifying the Business & Expanding New Horizons
Recognizing the risks of industry dependence, Rachana strategically expanded The Sky Industries’ customer base beyond traditional pump and machine manufacturing. Through LinkedIn and digital marketing, she successfully secured clients from new verticals, positioning the company as a pioneer in Maharashtra’s manufacturing industry.
“My persistence paid off when we secured two customers from completely different sectors, proving that strategic adaptability can unlock new opportunities,” she notes.
Work, Wanderlust & Prioritization: A Balanced Life
A passionate traveler, Rachana believes that work-life balance is about priorities, not perfection. With unwavering support from her husband, Dr. Akshay Suryapeth, and her family, she seamlessly blends career ambition with personal fulfillment.
“Having an efficient team allows me to manage operations remotely, ensuring that my love for travel remains a part of my life,” she shares. Her approach to leadership emphasizes that success is not about choosing between personal and professional goals, but about making strategic decisions at every stage.
